Into the Mountains We Go
Heading North East from the Bay Area, we were excited at the prospect of seeing snow in August! After the HUGE amounts of snow and rainfall this past winter, we knew that some of the ski slopes had closed only two weeks prior.
Our destination was Incline Village, Nevada. Elevation 6,350′. As the miles quickly passed by, the stately pines kept getting taller and taller. The roadways were dotted with the many fallen pinecones and the air kept getting fresher and sweeter. During the drive, I received an unexpected and very fortunate text message from my best friend telling me that she too would be in North Lake Tahoe. Did we want to make plans to go out on a boat the following day. OF COURSE WE DID!!!
We were picked up right at the dock of our hotel, the Hyatt Regency. It was a perfect day to be out on Lake Tahoe. The wind was low and the water looked like glass. With a 396hp Mercury engine, I guess we had enough juice to fly across that lake! And just like that, we were cruising Lake Tahoe in a StanCraft boat! Dreams really do come true!
The historic Thunderbird Lodge. The boat house here boasts one the most unique and famous wooden boats, the Thunderbird. Take the time to go down memory lane by doing a Google search of this watercraft. It is something right out of a Hollywood movie!
Even though the summer temperatures can be really hot, the water temperature is startling cold when you jump in. But jump in we did! How can you go all that way and not experience the water? As I said to my son, ” Don’t think about it, JUST DO IT!!!”
We did see snow still capping the surrounding mountains. There is uniqueness and singular, calming beauty about Lake Tahoe. My heart Expands to take it all in.
